Toilet Parts and Functions

There are many parts that make a toilet work. These parts are mostly inside the tank of the toilet. Most toilet parts are easily replaced. If your toilet is not outdated you will be able to find parts to fix it.

The toilet handle is a part that operates the flushing mechanism. The handle system has parts on the outside as well as the inside of the tank. Once in a while parts in this mechanism can wear or break. The handle assembly lifts the flapper to release water into the bowl. The flapper is another of several toilet parts. It’s purpose is to seal water between the tank and the bowl. It acts as a valve. When lifted by the handle it releases the water into the tank. This causes the toilet to flush.

Inside the tank there are toilet parts including the fill valve. This valve opens and closes to fill the tank with water. The part that opens and closes this valve is a float. When the toilet flushes the water in the tank goes down. This action lowers the float which then opens the fill valve. The tank slowly fills with water raising the float until the valve shuts off.

The toilet tank gasket is a gasket between the tank and the bowl. This gasket stops water leaks between the toilet pieces. They can get old and need replacing after several years of use. The wax ring is a part that seals the toilet to the roughed in plumbing. It is a part that must work properly. It eliminates leaks and sewer gases escaping into your home.

The user friendly part of a toilet is the seat. Of all toilet parts this is the one people are most thankful for. This part offers you a little comfort why you are in the bathroom. Toilet seats can come in many forms including plastic, wood, and a padded design.

Toilets are a pretty basic fixture. Their parts  are pretty simple in nature and are very easy to replace if need be.
