If you are in the market for some new patio chair cushions, then you are going to be amazed at what you find. Depending upon where and how long ago you purchased your original cushions, you may not even recognize the styles that are available. Many of the newer or more modern chair cushions look like something that you would find on your furniture indoors. They are plush and have the look and feel of indoor furniture. You would never guess that these types of materials or fabrics and patterns were for patio furniture.
Well, this is due in part because of the way that the newer cushions are made. By this, we mean to talk about the process of coloring them, stitching, the materials used and the durability that they have. To begin with, the material that makes a cushion what it is has changed. There was a time when the cushion was nothing more than a cheap foam pad wrapped in some type of fabric material. With great care, these old cushions would last a few seasons. There is just too much to bear from Mother Nature for them to have lasted much longer. If you were a heavy user of your patio furniture, then yours wouldn’t even last that long.
Because of the modern enhancements and technological improvements, the dyes and other coloring processes can be done during the stage when the fiber filaments are being made. This is what they call the ‘wet’ stage – the stage whereby the chemical reaction takes place that ultimately forms the fiber material. Once this is set, it allows the color to be more permanently part of the fabric. This permits it to be more tolerable to the effects of the elements, ultraviolet ray resistant to fading and thus, more longer lasting. The outdoor cushions of today are truly nothing like what you may be used to from the past.
