Kitchen Blinds and Curtains

When determining what kind of kitchen blinds and curtains that you want, there are a lot of factors that you should take a look at before you make your final decision. First of all is the question of curtains as opposed to blinds. If you’ve got a dining area or breakfast nook off to one side of your kitchen then that might be alright for curtains, but in the actual kitchen itself you should probably go with blinds.

The reason is that kitchens get dirty and cloth is going to collect that dirt much more than a smooth surface will and that’s what most blinds are made of. If your window is over your sink, then when you wash dishes, food and dirty water can splash up and get on them causing you to have to take them down on a regular basis to wash them. And let’s all face it, one of the most prominent design features in most homes is having that window right over the sink so you can look out in the yard at the kids playing outside.

With the amount of moisture that you’ll find in a kitchen, your kitchen curtains would be more susceptible to mildew and mold. This is another reason that blinds would be better for your kitchen. Manufacturers have come to realize this and have started to put protective coatings on their blinds that are designed for a kitchen that makes them mold and mildew resistant.

Of course, you can go with whatever you choose, but if you want to go with curtains make sure you get them made with good, quality materials that will wash easily and keep in mind that you’ll need to take them down to wash on a pretty regular basis to keep them from looking dirty and grubby. Kitchen blinds and curtains need a little extra care when you’re choosing those as opposed to the rest of your house, so be sure to put the time into making your decision that you need to.
