Your next focal point should be the staircase. For Christmas, grab a roll of garland and wrap it around the stair handle. Add to it some lights and you will easily conjure a more festive atmosphere without breaking a sweat. For Halloween, you could simply hang Halloween banners instead of the garlands.
The final step in decorating your home is to create a focal point that is elegant and overwhelmingly beautiful. This usually works best if you have a fire place and a mantle your home. Find key pieces that are overpowering and eye catching. If there is an art piece on your mantle, remove it and replace it with a mirror that is bold and flamboyant. On the mantle, put pieces that have elegant designs. They could be candle holders, big glass canisters with ornaments inside and flowers. It will seem as if nothing much is going on there but enough to captivate the attention of your guests. Add to it candle lights and you will make it even more beautiful.
