Decorating With A Window Scarf Valance

To dress up or accent windows, try a window scarf valance. These types of window valances are extremely adaptable to many different decorating situations or styles. It can be coordinated with draperies, blinds, shades or other window coverings. It can also be used alone, for a simple, yet elegant statement. These decorative pieces come in as many different colors as draperies and are also available in a variety of different fabrics. Some are offered in lace or fabric weave. Others come in silk or sheer fabric. A few are available in various prints, for a really bold statement.

There are many ways to decorate with window scarf valances in your favorite room. They can be draped over either end of the drapery rod, with a scallop in the middle, for an even, classic look of a window valance. Both sides flow along the edges of the window, which gives the room a more formal feel.

Another attractive look is to shorten one side and let the other drape farther down the wall. This softens the window. A scarf placed this way on each of two adjacent windows acts almost like a picture frame.

This type of window valances can be twisted or manipulated to form many different patterns. Several twists across the top of a drapery rod provide interest. Several smaller scallops are achieved by gently pulling several of the twists, loosening them slightly. Another look that provides drama is the triangular draping of the piece, with one side falling down along the window more than the other. This is done by simply draping one part of one side over the end of the rod, rather than the entire width. For a more intense look, two pieces of different coordinating colors can be crossed over each other. The advantage of using a scarf window valance is that a fabulous look can be achieved with a bit of imagination and manipulation.
