A front door is a focal point on the front elevation of your residence. It is the one of the first things any visitors will encounter. While they are standing there waiting for the door to be answered they will have a good view of your front door and its surrounding. So you know you want to make a good impression but perhaps you are not sure on the type of door to fit. Maybe the existing door is worn out or looks tatty because it has not been maintained and it’s time to replace it.
So what are the types of front doors that are available?
Doors are nowadays made from many different materials such as wood, plastic, steel, aluminium and composite materials. The range of styles within each of these materials is vast.
Wooden doors have been the traditional choice for many years and still are very popular. Modern manufacturing techniques produce wood doors that are more stable and do not warp, twist and become draughty. They can be purchased factory prefinished and therefore do not need repainting for quite some time. If you buy them unfinished then regular maintenance may be necessary.
Plastic doors are also very popular. When fitted they are virtually maintenance free but these doors are considered boring and lack character unlike a wooden door.
If you need added security from a door, a steel door is the perfect answer. They consist of a steel inner frame faced with a steel sheet. They are heavy and give the feeling of quality. They are offered by some manufacturers with a wood veneer outer face over the steel sheet, giving the appearance of a wooden door.
Aluminium is a high quality material and is lightweight and strong. The framing can be slim line and ideal if you want a door containing glass panels.
A composite door is a great choice. They are produced with authentic wood grain effect, in a range of colours and they do not need painting. With a multi point locking system they are also quite secure. Maintenance is virtually nothing and like some of the other non wood materials they do not warp or twist and instead remain stable.
As you can see there is a wide choice to choose from. Happy door hunting…….
